Community Partnership Board

The Prevention Research Center (PRC) is one of 33 Centers funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). As part of the National PRC network, we bring academic researchers, community members, and public health agencies together to collaborate on developing effective strategies to promote health and prevent disease. One way we bring people together is through our Community Partnership Board (CPB).

The CPB membership consists of a balance of community, local/regional, and state-level members. These members represent diverse cultural and geographic communities in West Virginia. The CPB makes every effort to maintain a broad representation.

Community members are individuals with recognized knowledge of the communities in which they live and socialize. They are grassroots members who have an interest in making a difference in their community.

Local or regional representatives are individuals who work at the local or regional level with multiple communities representing a larger organization or agency such as a local health department or Cooperative Extension office, a Rural Health Education Partnership site, and the Partnership of African-American Churches. Their constituency goes well beyond their physical location. They have their agency’s permission to participate in the CPB. These individuals frequently are also part of a larger statewide network.

State-level representatives work in voluntary or state government agencies. These individuals hold leadership positions with organizations that serve the entire state such as the state health and education departments. They provide a broad perspective on issues affecting the state and are an invaluable resource for knowing the current public health issues.

Duties of Board Members

  • Represent community interests and perspectives in PRC activities through leadership.
  • Assist in the development, implementation, evaluation and/or dissemination of prevention research.
  • Develop strategies to support PRC initiatives.
  • Be a link between member organizations, the community, and PRC.
  • Advise the PRC on strategies and on the translation of research findings for policy and practice review, development, and adoption.
  • Serve on committees and/or subcommittees.
  • Support the National Community Committee.
